We will be Cleaning Up Urunga on Sunday March 2024!

Written by Taryn Blight | Jan 10, 2024

Riverside Holiday Resort will be Cleaning Up Urunga on Sunday, 3rd March for the 2024 Clean Up Australia Day as part of their commitment to sustainability and giving back to the local community.

The town of Urunga is located on the coast in the pristine Bellingen Shire with its white sand surf beaches, clear turquoise rivers, lush valleys and rainforests of the hinterland and Dorrigo National Park. The area is widely known for its rich biodiversity and protected marine and National Park areas, with the proposed Great Koala National Park to one day be created in areas of the nearby Newry State Forest and Bongil Bongil and Dorrigo National Park areas.

Riverside Holiday Resort is owned and run by the not-for-profit Federation of Community, Sporting and Worker's Clubs and has been focusing on improving the Sustainability of the resort, and working with Bellingen Shire Council as to how to share the message to visitors and locals of the importance of "leaving only footprints" in our significant natural areas to protect them for generations to come.

The team at Riverside, led by Green Team Leader Taryn Blight, is excited to take part in the Clean Up Australia Day event and hopes to run this event annually as a way to give back to both the local environment and community.

Interested in joining the Clean Up Urunga event?

Where: Meeting on the riverside of Atherton Drive/Morgo Street across from the entrance of Riverside Holiday Resort Urunga

When: Sunday 3rd March 2024, 9am-11am

What: We will be cleaning up the riverfront both along Atherton Drive towards Anchors Wharf Cafe & Restaurant and in the other direction towards the Urunga Lido, which will include the foreshore park and playground areas of the Morgo Street Reserve and down near the Boardwalk. If we get ample helpers on the day, volunteers can then also choose to clean the Urunga Wetlands area or along Giinagay Way if they wish.

There are bins located at the entrance of the Riverside Holiday Resort for both recycling and general rubbish that can be used at the end of the event.
