Knowing where to get the best coffee in town, or the best place to grab a bite when on holidays, often requires a bit of trial and error without the help of a savvy local, so we thought we would put together a little guide of some of our favourite spots in Urunga and nearby Bellingen to help you pick what is best for you!
Urunga is a coastal town situated in on the NSW Mid North Coast in the Bellingen Shire. With ocean, rivers and mountain views, this popular holiday destination is perfect for water-lovers and those wanting to experience the temperate weather of the Coffs Coast. Urunga is a special place, with diverse natural environments ranging from the ocean and the long white sand beaches; coastal scrubland, wetlands, estuaries and rivers; to the green rolling valleys and sub-tropical rainforests.
Regarded by locals as paradise, if you are lucky enough to be visiting this once sleepy fishing village, we have prepared a list of the best eateries in Urunga for you to visit.
Liberty Providores Cafe and Grocer is the place the locals go for the incredible Dark Arts Coffee, fresh quality smoothies and juices, and an old fashioned toasted jaffle.
Stocked with local organic produce, and surrounded by their own herb and veggie gardens, the surrounding forest will give you the feeling of having been transported to the nearby hinterland (if it hadn't been for the roar of the ocean or passing traffic along Giinagay Way).
Social distancing is a breeze with outdoor seating, and if you are lucky, you may even happen to visit when they have some incredible live music, or on one of their rare Market days held every fifth Saturday of the month.

Pomegranate lovingly make all their food in house from locally sourced fresh ingredients.
Located in the heart of town, Pomegranate is a favourite for both locals and visitors, and you will often see people milling out the front in anticipation of that morning caffeine fix.
Not only are their home-made breakfast and lunch options delicious, but they also have a fantastic selection of cakes and treats to choose from, making it the destination of choice for those with a sweet tooth.

The perfect spot to grab a bite before embarking on a stroll along the famous boardwalk,
The Boardwalk Cafe has a good selection of breakfast and lunch options, including burgers and fish and chips from the Takeaway next door.
With windows opening onto busy Bowra Street, The Boardwalk Cafe is the perfect spot to catch a little bit of sun, or grab an outdoor table and catch up with friends.

31 Bowra Street, Urunga NSW
15 minutes from the heart of Urunga, and right near Urunga's North Beach, lies the coastal village of Mylestom with its fenced tidal river swimming spot, kid's playground and the General Store.
North Beach General Store is a local's coffee, fish ‘n’ chipper and burger haunt (along with being the town's local post office). Set on the Bellinger River, its views are worth the trip, and they are open some Friday nights for dinner and live music.

The historic Ocean View Hotel lies in beautiful downtown Urunga overlooking the Kalang and Bellinger Rivers and Foreshore park area.
The hotel is family friendly with inside restaurant and bistro seating complete with fireplace to keep you cosy in winter; and outdoor deck and grassed beer garden with secure fencing suitable for the kids which is the perfect place to spend the afternoon and evening during the warmer months.
The menu has a good selection of pub food, and they also have a dine-in and take-away pizza menu in the evenings. Not only is the food great, but you can generally catch some live music Friday night and Sunday afternoons, or join in on a game of Trivia or Musical Bingo throughout the week.

In 2013 the old hardware store space on Bonville street was transformed into a cosy bar and restaurant now knows as Patsy's, serving up pastas, burgers, tacos, loaded fries and homemade pizzas cooked fresh in the large hand-built wood fire oven.

If you are looking for a special destination for a celebration, a boozy holiday lunch, or purely somewhere with spectacular scenery away from it all, you can't beat the Award-Winning Raleigh Winery.
Less than 10 minutes from the Urunga town centre, and set across from the Bellinger River amongst the vineyards, the Winery's all weather outdoor deck is the perfect spot to enjoy an afternoon with friends or a special loved one.
The menu is full of fresh, seasonal produce, designed to be shared, and pairs beautifully with their award winning wines and bubbles. You also won't want to miss the dessert!

The Club is an affordable choice for both members and visitors, and offers a large selection of both Chinese and Australian cuisine with spacious dining area, two bars, outdoor seating overlooking the bowling greens, and on-site kid's playground making it suitable for the whole family,
If you are around at the end of the month, don't miss the all you can eat Chinese Smorgasbord lunch held on the last Sunday of every month.

The Shank Inn, located at the C.ex Urunga Golf Club, offers a selection of traditional Australian pub fare including steaks, fish and chips, chicken schnitzel, roast of the day, and bangers and mash.
The restaurant is situated at the rear of the building overlooking the picturesque Golf Course & Riverside Holiday Resort Apartments with the impressive mountains of Dorrigo National Park in the distance. Seating in the front bar has incredible elevated views of the Kalang and Bellinger Rivers, and is also a great spot to enjoy the afternoons for happy hour.

Situated on the south bank of the Kalang River in Urunga, the Award-Winning Anchors Wharf Café & Restaurant is the perfect place to go if wanting to be treated to open-air on-the-water jetty seating and spectacular river views.
The menu features modern Australian cuisine with a Thai Twist. Meals are generous, and as you would expect with the waterfront location, they have a great selection of seafood dishes from the local region.
Anchors wharf is the ideal destination to celebrate that special occasion or for a romantic meal, whether it is Oysters and Bubbly for lunch, or a wintery main with a drop of red for dinner.

With inside seating and takeaway on the main street of town, this is a good little option for some Chinese. Please note that their online content is not regularly updated so visitors may want to grab a menu from outside the shop before ordering.

Why not grab a pizzas and relax by the river and enjoy the view.
The Ocean View Hotel in Urunga have a great little Pizza Shop Open 7 days 5pm to 8pm grab a menu as you pass the pub or visit their website.
Surfside Pizza Mylestom offer pick up or delivery (yay), they are located in the North Beach Bowling Club and have a large variety of standard & gourmet pizzas, they also offer a full bistro menu and lots of tasty sides & deserts. Open 7 days Sun to Thur 5pm to 8pm - Fri & Sat 5pm to 9pm (no delivery Mondays)

Bellingen is a stunning artisan town with loads of historic charm. Situated in the valleys at the base of the Dorrigo National Park and Great Dividing Range whose scenic mountains give the town its picturesque backdrop, and a mere 15 minutes to the coast, Bellingen is a must visit whilst staying in Urunga.
There are so many amazing eateries in Bellingen including cafes, restaurants, bars and pubs, most of which have a strong focus on locally sourced fresh foods, that we are listing just a few of our favourites. If heading there for a coffee or bite of lunch, we would recommend taking a stroll along Hyde and Church Street and choosing the one that calls to you.
You can't be a tourist in Bellingen without a visit to the Heritage Old Butter Factory.
Located on the drive into town from Urunga, and next to the Bellingen Golf Course, there is a range of indoor, undercover-outdoor, and open-air outdoor seating available to suit all weather conditions and personal preferences.
Families with young children will love the artificial grassed play area equipped with toys and picnic tables, and the kids will not want to leave.
The coffee and food is top-quality with the menu reflecting the seasonal local produce on offer, but beware, the sneaky beautiful local Lorikeets and Honeyeaters may try to steal your food.

HYDE is definitely the place to go for that morning coffee fix, the front of the cafe generally buzzing with locals as they await their morning brew.
The beautiful roomy and relaxed interior space that HYDE has created is the place to go if wanting to settle in to a long breakfast or lunch, whether alone or meeting with friends, and the food is locally sourced from makers and producers in the region.
The space also features a curated selection of homewares, clothing, art, skincare and gifts, with a focus on quality natural fibres and ingredients.

With an incredible philosophy of being a consciously sustainable, nourishing and inclusive space that brings together individuals from all walks of life, 5 Church Street is a hub for creating shared experiences, be that around live music, movie nights or community gatherings.
Inline with their sustainability ethos, produce is sourced from the local region in an effort to reduce their business carbon footprint, and to put money back into their local communities.
The Federal Hotel is not only renown for its live music and the excited buzz in the open-air beer garden through the warmer months, but also for its tasty tucker with ingredients that are sourced locally.
With a rich history, the heritage looking building dates back to 1901 when the pub first opened its doors, the Fed is iconic to the town and a must visit for foodies and music lovers alike.

Having changed up their menu late 2020 to a share style menu filled with grazing plates, this little Bellingen gem may only be open Friday and Saturday nights, but the atmosphere makes it worth the visit.
The food is sourced fresh from local and regional producers, and the drinks menu boasts a good selection of regional and international craft beers, boutique wines and spirits.
Located in an old turn of the 20th Century Church, the quaint decor and outdoor seating, with garden fairy lights, gives the sense that Cedar Bar possesses a whole lot of magic.
Cedar Bar is family and dog friendly, and guests are encouraged to book online.

Nestled in the space behind The Federal Hotel and Kombu Wholefoods Organic Grocers, this stunning space was created from the desire of being a truly environmentally sustainable business.
The building an interior were built with salvaged materials, and the Mondrian inspired front facade with local timbers.
Their delicious pizzas are sourced from the finest seasonal local ingredients, and they have a list of wines that are Australian organic, bio-dynamic and preservative free.
The real draw card op top of their organic brews and ferments is the live music.
